Fascia Board Blown Away & Birds Start to Roost There in Fair Haven, NJ
A short while ago, a nasty storm had blown a portion of the fascia boards right off this customers home in Fair Haven, NJ. A short while later, a few starlings came by and decided to nest in that area! This didn't make the homeowner happy and so he called Bird Solutions by Cowleys for help and we were sent out.
Once we arrived, the first thing we did was carefully remove all the nesting debris. Next, we disinfected the areas with an application that attacks and exterminates bird mites. What are bird mites exactly? They are semi-transparent parasites that feed on the blood of birds. Once the birds leave their nests, the mites are left behind without a host for their next blood meal, so they make their way into a home and then feed on the blood of you, your family, and your pets!
Lastly, we replaced the fascia board with sturdy metal flashing to exclude the area from all nuisance birds, bats, and other wildlife.

This homeowner in Spring Lake, NJ, was fed up with squirrels and nuisance birds nesting on the joists of his deck. After doing some research, he called Little Rascals by Cowleys for help and we were sent out!

Homeowner Finds Opossum Under Her Deck in Spring Lake, NJ
As this homeowner in Spring Lake, NJ, was tending to her yard, she spotted an opossum running across the grass and then going underneath her deck. Startled, she searched online for a reputable nuisance wildlife control company, found Little Rascals, and scheduled an appointment. As we inspected the area, we found the opossum's main harborage area as well as several other potential harborage areas for other nuisance wildlife.
So, to exclude all nuisance wildlife and protect the deck, we installed Dig Defense® around the entire perimeter of the deck except for one area. Dig Defense® is a below-ground fence system 15 inches deep and 4 feet across and protects structures against invasive nuisance wildlife and feral animals. Afterward, we installed a positive set over the exposed opening. A positive set comprises a nose cone attached to a two-gaited, heavy-duty device. It's an upbeat set because we are optimistic that the opossum will enter our device.
Shortly after, we retrieved the opossum, relocated it to a new, humane location, and installed another portion of Dig Defense® over the opening.
Bald-Faced Hornets Nesting Next to the Downspout in Spring Lake, NJ
One warm and sunny afternoon, this customer in Spring Lake, NJ, decided that it was a great day to go out and clean his gutters. However, as he was climbing up his ladder, he was attacked by several angry bald-faced hornets. He quickly got off his ladder and then spotted a soccer ball sized bald-faced hornets nest right next to the downspout, tucked away in the corner of the house. Since he was already a Home Protection Plan customer, he gave our Pest Control Division a call and we were sent out to inspect and treat.
When it comes to treating anytime type of stinging insects extreme care is needed, especially with bald-faced hornets. They are one of the most territorially and aggressive stinging insects out there and will attack ANYTHING that comes close to their nest. Once we arrived, we equipped our protective bee suit, grabbed our extendable pole, attached a residual dusting application to it, and then injected it into the nest. This application rapidly exterminates the bald-faced hornets.
A short while later, we removed the nest, disposed of it, and then applied a liquid non-repellant residual to the area. This treatment will eliminate any returning bald-faced hornets as well as prevent them, and any other stinging insect, from building another nest.
Sparrows Getting Nesting in the Vents in Spring Lake, NJ
This homeowner in Spring Lake, NJ, kept hearing "chirping" in one of his bathrooms and was concerned that his had a bird nesting in his home! He contacted Bird Solutions by Cowleys and we were sent out. As we inspected the exterior of the property, we noticed that one of the exhaust vents seemed to be damaged and was missing a cover. When we took a closer look, we found a sparrow and its nest inside the vent!
To safely remove the sparrow, we installed a one-way device over the vent. This will allow the sparrow to safely leave the area, but prevent them from getting back in. The best part of the one-way device is that, if there are young birds inside, the adult female will still be able to feed them through the flap until they leave. After a short period of time, we returned to the home and discovered that the sparrow had left the property for good.
After we removed our one-way device, we carefully disinfected the vent with an application that targets and eliminates bird mites. Bird mites are parasites that feed on the blood of birds and when birds leave their nests, the mites are left behind without a suitable host for their next blood meal. They will make their way into a home, and once inside they will take over, climbing all over your walls, ceilings, and beddings. To make matters worse, bird mites are tiny and semi-transparent, so they are extremely difficult to detect!
To prevent any future infestations from sparrows, or any other nuisance birds, we installed DryerWallVent®. The DryerWallVent® is made out of heavy-duty galvanized steel and its large opening and angled damper provide maximum airflow efficiency for safe venting. Integrated magnets keep the damper closed when not in use, preventing pests, bats, birds, and all nuisance wildlife from infesting the home.
