Crawl Space Vent Replaced with Everlast™ Door in Toms River, NJ

A Toms River, NJ homeowner, who lives near the Barnegat Bay, was plagued with a chronically wet crawl space. Due to the high water table, his crawl space had at least an inch of standing water throughout the year due to groundwater seepage. Fortunately, Crawl Space Solutions by Cowleys was call in to save the day.

This Toms River homeowner contracted with Cowleys for a full Clean Space install. An important part of the encapsulation process is installing a special Everlast™  vent cover. These covers, which can be installed against wood framing or masonry, close off outside air and moisture from entering the crawl space through the exterior vents.  These covers not only work well, but, as shown in the pictures, are aesthetically pleasing. Made with a hard durable plastic, they stand up to the worst weather conditions, and, unlike wood vents, these covers are completely maintenance free. They never rot, warp, or crack and they never need to be painted. Even though these vent covers completely seal the vents from the outdoor elements, they are easy to open if you need to access your crawl space to have repairs done or for storage (another benefit of encapsulation — a clean, dry area for storage!). To open these vent covers, all you need to do is twist a few knobs, and you’re in! The attached pictures show the outside of the crawl space of this Toms River home before and after one of these vent covers was installed.

Rodent Removal in Toms River, NJ

A new client in Toms River, NJ frantically called our office after finding a rat in her basement. So we were sent out to inspect and treat. During our inspection, we noticed a rather large gap where the water line was entering the structure through the foundation wall. As we took a closer look, we found several rat droppings right below it.

First, we carefully cleaned up the rodent droppings and installed several rodent bait stations throughout the basement and along the exterior of the home. Next, we stuffed the opening with chew-proof stainless steel mesh, which rodents hate chewing through. Afterward, we sealed the opening with a waterproof, premium adhesive. Lastly, we scheduled several follow-up visits to replenish the bait in the stations and monitor the rat activity.

Preemptive Nuisance Wildlife Exclusion in Toms River, NJ

After purchasing a home in Toms River, NJ this first-time homeowner decided to take a proactive approach and wanted Little Rascals to exclude all the gable vents on his property from any and all nuisance wildlife, birds, and bats!

There was a total of two gable vents on the home and in order to prevent these areas from becoming potential access points for an infestation, we installed louvered vent guards. This material doesn't restrict the airflow to the attic, is made out of sturdy, galvanized steel, and properly guards the home against pests, birds, bats, and all nuisance wildlife.

Crawl Space Needs a Vapor Barrier in Toms River, NJ

A business owner in Toms River, NJ called our office and wanted our Contracting team to add a vapor barrier and a dehumidifier to his crawl space.

First, we removed all the debris and then leveled the ground. Afterward, we installed the vapor barrier, which is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. It's extremely durable, treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold, and is installed over the foundation walls and floor to create a continuous air and moisture barrier.

Lastly, we installed a Sani-Dry Sedona commercial-grade dehumidifier which directs the extracted water that is pulled out of the air directly into the sump pump. These dehumidifiers are maintenance-free, turn on and off automatically with a built-in hygrometer, and there is no water tray to empty or overflow.

Crawl Space Desperately Needs Insulation in Toms River, NJ

A new customer in Toms River, NJ had a crawl space that was in bad shape. Not only was the humidity level in the crawl space extremely high, but a pipe had burst, which flooded the entire area. The pipe was repaired, but the insulation was saturated and, if not handled immediately, mold will develop. So we’re here to prevent that from happening.

First, we removed all the contaminated insulation from the crawl space. Afterward, we wiped down all the joists and installed ComfortTherm® insulation. ComfortTherm® insulation provides excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates. To control the high humidity levels, we installed a Sani-Dry Sedona commercial-grade dehumidifier. The Sedona directs the extracted water pulled out of the air directly into the sump pump and will control the humidity levels in the crawl space.

Lastly, we replaced the broken crawl space door with a new EverLast™ Crawl Space Door. The EverLast™ Door is made entirely out of completely inorganic plastic and foam doors are & create an airtight, waterproof seal between your crawl space and the cold or humid air outside.
