Crawl Space Goes from Dirty to Healthy in Montgomery, NJ
After purchasing her new home, this resident in Montgomery, NJ wanted to add some much-needed storage space in her crawl space. The issue was that her crawl space had a dirt floor and was filthy. She contacted our Contracting division and wanted us to encapsulated her crawl space.
First, we leveled the ground for proper draining and installed drainage matting. This material is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over to the new sump pump we installed. Next, we installed a vapor barrier, which is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. It's extremely durable, treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold, and is installed over the foundation walls and floor to create a continuous air and moisture barrier.
Afterward, we installed SilverGlo™ on the walls of the crawl space, which is a waterproof foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity. Lastly, we installed a Sani-Dry Sedona commercial-grade dehumidifier. The Sedona directs the extracted water pulled out of the air directly into the sump pump and will control the humidity levels in the crawl space.
Stopping Nuisance Birds from Roosting on the Roof in Montgomery, NJ
This homeowner in Montgomery, NJ had enough of pigeons, starlings, and other nuisance birds defecating all over his roof, so he called Bird Solutions by Cowleys for help and we were sent out. Bird droppings are not only hazardous to your health, but they also eat away almost any substrate, particularly tar-based roofing material. A constant accumulation of pigeon droppings can cut the life expectancy of a roof in half.
In order to stop all nuisance birds from roosting on the roof, we installed Shock track. Shock track is a solar-powered, low-profile ledge deterrent system that is effective against all species of nuisance birds and utilizes the principle of fear and flight. The unique electrically charged tracks impart a mild electrical shock when birds land on them. The shock will not harm the nuisance birds but will condition them to avoid the area. The shock track gets affixed to roof, with no screws, and is connected to a solar-powered charger.
We also installed an Eagle Eye bird deterrent onto the roof and secured it in place. The light spectrum reflected back by the Eagle Eye disorient birds in flight by limiting their vision significantly. This causes the bird to deviate in flight and fly to another destination.
Homeowner Attacked by Yellow Jackets While Cleaning in Montgomery, NJ
As this customer in Montgomery, NJ was cleaning off his back porch he got attacked by yellow jackets! Luckily he wasn't allergic to them. Since he is a Home Protection Plan customer, he called us up to come out and get rid of these territorial pests.
The first thing we did was inspect the back porch to find out exactly where the yellow jackets were coming from. Minutes into our investigation, we found it! The yellow jackets were emerging from a small opening underneath the deck where the wood meets the siding. We showed the owner and he mentioned that he will close off that opening on his own once we exterminate the yellow jackets.
So we injected a knockdown aerosol product directly into that opening. Shortly after, we then applied a knockdown dusting application. These treatments will quickly eliminate the yellow jackets. Some time later, we removed the nest, disposed of it, and applied a liquid residual to the area. This treatment is going to eliminate any yellow jackets that return to this opening and prevent them from building another nest.
Keeping Birds Out of Hamilton Township, NJ Facility
Over the years Atlantic City Electric has been having issues with barn swallow flying in and nesting above the I- beams in the loading dock area. When asked by Cowleys pest control company for a solution, we immediately went out to the job site and installed Bird Slope on top of every I- beam. Bird Slope prevents birds from landing and nesting in those areas permanently.
Bat's find easy access to Princeton, NJ home
This homeowner in Princeton, NJ found herself with bats nesting under the fascia leaving guano (the excrement of birds and bats) deposits all over the deck. Bat guano happens to be an excellent organic fertilizer because of its high nitrogen and phosphorus, but it is also a health hazard. Bat and bird guano can contain numerous pathogens including a fungus that causes histoplasmosis, a serious chronic lung disease, and exposure, Including breathing in these airborne particles, is dangerous for homeowners. Also, bats are major carriers of rabies. Bat infestations need to be removed and professional experienced in excluding bats from nesting in your home should be brought in. This is not a DIY project and you should not be working in a bat-contaminated area without proper protective equipment. For this home, I completely covered the fascia with a metal barrier to keep them from roosting in and between the fascia board.
