Fixing the Damage Done by Squirrels in Brick, NJ

Now that we safely and successfully removed all the squirrels from this home in Brick, NJ, we're now going to repair the damage they inflicted to the soffit. First, we disinfected the entire attic area. Afterward, we then measured a piece of sturdy, metal flashing and cut it to the shape and length of the damaged area. Lastly, we installed the metal flashing over the damaged soffit area to cover and protect the home from pests and nuisance wildlife.

Yellow Jackets Nest Hidden Well in the Bushes in Brick, NJ

This homeowner in Brick, NJ was mowing his lawn one warm, sunny morning when all of a sudden, he was attacked and stung by several yellow jackets! Fortunately, he was a Home Protection Plan customer, so he stopped what he doing and called Cowleys for help.

When we arrived, we equipped our protective bee suits and began inspecting the area where the owner was attacked. Several moments into our inspection, we found a large yellow jackets nest in the bushes! They were expertly hidden and the owner, nor his family, had any idea they were there!

So we injected a residual aerosol application into the nest, waited a few moments, and then injected a residual dusting product. These treatments exterminate the yellow jackets quickly. A few moments later, we removed the nest & the branch it was attached to and disposed of them properly.

Groundhogs Digging Around the Shed & Harboring Underneath It in Allenwood, NJ

After her daughter spotted a groundhog running across the yard and then going underneath the shed, this homeowner in Allenwood, NJ, called our Nuisance Wildlife Division for help. In order to safely retrieve the groundhog, we installed Dig Defense® around the entire perimeter of the shed except for one area, which was the main burrow. Dig Defense® is a below-ground fence system that is 15 inches deep, 4 feet across, and protects structures against invasive nuisance wildlife and feral animals.

Afterward, we installed a positive set over the main burrow. A positive set is comprised of a nose cone that is attached to a two-gaited, heavy-duty device. It's called a positive set, because we are positive that the groundhog will enter our device. Once we safely retrieve the groundhog, we will relocate it to a new, humane location, fill in the burrow, and install another portion of Dig Defense® over the main burrow.

A Nasty & Dirty Crawl Space Gets Encapsulated in Allenwood, NJ

This homeowners crawl space in Allenwood, NJ, was in bad shape. The insulation was falling down (due to moisture) and the humidity levels were incredibly high! Fortunately, there was no signs of mold or mildew. So the first thing we did was remove all the contaminated insulation and level the ground for proper drainage. Next, we installed a drainage matting, which is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over to the sum pump.

After that was done, we installed a vapor barrier. A vapor barrier is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. The vapor barrier is also extremely durable and is treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold. Afterward, we installed SilverGlo™ on the walls of the crawl space. SilverGlo™ is a waterproof foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity.

Next, we installed new ComfortTherm® insulation throughout the crawl space. ComfortTherm® insulation provides excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates. Lastly, to control the humidity levels in the crawl space, we installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run! Now the homeowners have a clean and healthy crawl space as well as an additional area in their home for storage.

Raccoons Break Into Home Through the Gable Vent in Barnegat Light, NJ

An raccoon decided that the attic of this home Barnegat Light, NJ was a great spot to reside in, so it ripped apart the gable vent and made it's way inside! The homeowner wasn't exactly to fond of this idea and called Little Rascals for help. Nuisance wildlife infesting a home via the gable vents is very common. Over time, the gable vents get weathered and raccoons, squirrels, birds, and bats have no problem ripping away these vents to find shelter inside a home.

To safely remove the raccoon, we installed a one-way over the gable vent, temporarily enclosed the area with hardware cloth, and set-up several baited devices nearby. A one-way is a device that allows raccoons to safely leave an area, but prevent them from getting back in. A short while later, we successfully retrieved the raccoon and relocated the it to a new, humane location. Afterward, we disinfected the attic area, removed the broken gable vent and replaced it with a louvered vent guard. This material is made out of heavy-duty Galvannealed steel (which means it won't rust) and is customized to accommodate vents of all shapes and sizes. Now the home is properly protected from not just raccoons, but all nuisance wildlife and pests!
