Wildlife Removal Photo Album: Attic Turned Into a Bathroom in Perth Amboy, NJ
The attic insulation was loaded with feces and urine from the squirrels.
Right Into the Soffit
As we inspected the exterior of the condo, we noticed that part of the soffit was damaged and ripped apart. This was one of the ways the squirrels were getting into the attic.
Attic is a Mess
As you can see, the attic is in complete disarray. The insulation was loaded with feces and urine!
Also Through the Builder's Gap
We also noticed that there was a chew-out hole in the builder's gap. A builders gap is the gap between the fascia board (where the gutter is hung) and roof decking. This gap is caused when roof decking is stopped too short and is not flush with the fascia. The gap is meant to help with airflow throughout the attic, but is also the perfect place for nuisance wildlife to enter your home!
Set Up to Retrieve the Squirrels
We installed a one-way device over each one of the access points and then temporarily enclosed the areas off with hardware cloth. We also set up several baited devices nearby. The one-way allows the squirrels to leave the area safely but prevent them from getting back it. Once all the squirrels have been removed, we're going to properly exclude the access points and our Attic Systems team will come out, disinfect the attic, and replace all the insulation with TruSoft blown-in cellulose insulation.
