Wildlife Removal Photo Album: Flying Squirrels Landed in Home in Colts Neck, NJ
A homeowner in Colts Neck, NJ called our office after spotting a flying squirrel landed on his roof and enter his attic!
Flying Out
As we were about to begin inspecting we saw a flying squirrel coming out from the ridge vent. Ridge vents allows damp, warm air to escape from the attic, but also allow easy access for nuisance wildlife and birds to enter the home.
Ridge Guard
Continuing our inspection, we noticed two additional access points, one by the attic fan and the other in the soffit at the front of the home. When we finished inspecting, we came up with a plan. First, we installed a RIDGE-GUARD® over the opening of the ridge vents.
What is RIDGE-GUARD®
RIDGE-GUARD® is a system for guarding against animal entry at the roof ridge. It secures and reinforces the ridge vent shingles so no bats or nuisance wildlife can enter.
Now for the Attic Fan
Afterward, we covered the attic fan with an attic fan cover. This material is made of thick galvanized steel for strength & durability and is black polyurethane coated for long life and to make them virtually invisible from the ground.
Now For the Soffit
Now for the soffit area, we temporarily sealed off the area with hardware cloth and installed a one-way device directly over the opening. With all other access points sealed off, the squirrels will have no choice but to exit through here.
How the One-Way Works
The one-way allows the flying squirrels to safely exit the area, but is designed to prevent them from getting back in. We also set-up several baited traps nearby. Once all the flying squirrels are safely removed and relocated to a new, humane environment, we'll disinfect the entire attic and seal off this soffit area with sturdy metal flashing.
