Wildlife Removal Photo Album: Flying Squirrels Soar in Manalapan, NJ
The Issue Is
Beginning my inspection I noticed that the home is constructed out of brick. Now, obviously the roof isn't made of brick so there has to be a "transition" point at the top, which you can see, is covered with a fascia board. Problem is, the windows were not recessed flush to the brick so this fascia covers the transition but is a good 1" off the brick. This creates an easy access for flying squirrels or even bats to get in.
Found It
Continuing my inspection, I found chew marks in a portion on the fascia board and determined that this was the main access point. Once I inspected the attic I found flying squirrel hair and droppings. Looks like flying squirrels were making a new home in the attic!
Set it Up
I installed one-way device directly over the access point. I'm sure you're thinking, what's a one-way? It's a device that allows the flying squirrels to exit the home safely, but prevent them from getting back in. I also set-up several placement traps nearby.
Custom Construction
Then I custom cut sheet aluminum and bent a 90 degree angle to cover the gaps in the fascia line around the windows.
Return, Sanitize and Seal
Once all the flying squirrels have left the home, I'll sanitize the attic and properly seal up the access point.
