A homeowner in Colts Neck, NJ was tired of bats repeatedly gaining access into his home, so he called Cowleys for help.
Entering Through the Ridge Vents
Beginning our inspection, we found bat droppings inside the attic and determined that they were entering through the ridge vent. A ridge vent is a cover that runs along the peak of a roof to cover the roof deck opening along the ridge.
Small Opening is Not a Problem for Bats
Bats find their way into homes through cracks and crevices in building materials. Their small size makes it easy for them to tuck themselves into even the smallest of gaps. They can squeeze through holes as small as a dime.
After Removal
First, we set up a bat cone, which is a one-way device that allows the bats to safely exit the attic, but prevent them from getting back in. Once all the bats were gone we completely sanitized the attic and began to seal up the access points.
A Ridge-Guard™ Will Do the Trick
Since there were multiple entry points, we installed a Ridge-Guard™ as an extra deterrent for any and all animals and insects. A Ridge-Guard™ is designed to keep bats & other critters from accessing an attic through the ridge vents. The grid on the Ridge-Guard™ is so small not even ladybugs can enter.
Finished Product
Now the ridge vents are properly sealed and this homeowner will no longer experience any issues with bats or any intrusive wildlife entering his attic.
