Wildlife Removal Photo Album: A Stinky Situation in Piscataway, NJ
A property manager of a community center in Piscataway, NJ called Cowleys after multiple residents have been complaining of a smelly burrow near the main office. He was certain that he had a skunk living there, so he had Cowleys Wildlife Division handle it.
Underground Downspout Creates Cave
As we inspected we noticed that the gutter downspout goes underground and had washed away a lot of the dirt creating a cave of sorts.
A Stinky Cave
At first, we thought it was just a sinkhole caused by the water from the underground drain, but we took a closer look we found skunk hair stuck to the dirt. A skunk came along and only had to dig about 4" down and it had its ready-made burrow right there.
Tread Carefully
The burrow is right by the sidewalk and entrance to the main office, so we have to be extra careful with the traps and where we put them. We don't want anyone passing by to get sprayed if they startle a trapped skunk.
Final Set-Up
We set-up a placement trap by the back end of the burrow and filled it with leaves to camouflage the trap. We also set-up another trap a few feet away on the skunk's path as a back-up. In no time at all, we'll safely capture the skunk.
