Squirrels Cause Roof and Attic Damage in Brick, NJ
Challenge
As the weather gets cooler, the natural wildlife in NJ start looking for nesting opportunities. And all too often we provide them with easy access to our attics. As I arrived at the house in Brick, NJ, the first thing I noticed was a big tree leaning against the front of the house. I suspected this was the point of entry and I was right. We always suggest to NJ residents to trim trees and branches away from their homes. Squirrels are pretty adept at finding this easy way into an attic.
Solution
At the entry point along the roof edge, I installed a one-way device that allows the squirrels to get safely out but not back in. Next, I installed several baited devices nearby. Once we safely retrieve the squirrel, we will relocate it to a new, humane location, disinfect the attic area, and install sturdy metal flashing over the access point.
