While the Homeowners Away the Raccoon will Play in Beachwood, NJ
Challenge
After spending the holidays out of state with his family, this homeowner in Beachwood, NJ, came home to a surprise visitor — a raccoon in his attic! He immediately called Little Rascals and we were sent out to inspect and safely retrieve the raccoon.
During our inspection, we found raccoon paw prints leading up the downspout and onto the roof. We followed the paw prints to the soffit area and noticed that the area was damaged and that there was raccoon hair stuck in the soffit. This was the main access point for the raccoon!
Solution
We temporarily enclosed the area off with hardware cloth and then installed a one-way device over the access point. A one-way device is designed to allow the raccoon to safely leave the area but prevent it from getting back in. We also placed several baited devices nearby.
Once we safely retrieve the raccoon, we will relocate it to a new humane environment, disinfect the attic area, and install sturdy metal flashing to prevent any other raccoons, as well as any nuisance wildlife, from reinfesting the home.
