Squirrels and Raccoon Retrieval in Brick, NJ
Challenge
This homeowner in Brick, NJ had a rather unique nuisance wildlife situation in his attic. We almost immediately spotted where the nuisance wildlife was entering the attic since the gable vent was destroyed. The issue was that we found evidence of both squirrels and raccoons in the area. So in order to safely remove the nuisance wildlife from the home, we created a unique one-way device.
Solution
Essentially we created a dual one-way device that'll work for squirrels and raccoons. A one-way is designed to allow the nuisance wildlife to safely leave the area, but prevent them from getting back in. We measured the size of the gable vent, cut a hole for the particular size for each one-way, and secured it in place so that the weight is distributed. We then installed it over the gable vent and temporarily enclosed the area in hardware cloth. We also set up several baited traps nearby.
Once all the nuisance wildlife are safely retrieved, we will relocate them to a humane location, disinfect the attic area, replace the broken gable vent with the new one the homeowner purchased, and install a louver vent guard over the gable vent. The louver vent guard prevents all nuisance wildlife from entering the home through the gable vent while at the same time not compromising the airflow in the room.
