Squirrels chew their way into Neptune City, NJ home.
Challenge
Recently, homeowners in Neptune City, NJ found themselves with a squirrel infestation in their attic, and contacted Cowleys to resolve the problem. Here, the squirrels gained entry by chewing through the wood fascia board. Those cute-as-a-button squirrels are actually arboreal rodents. And like any rodent, they have ever-growing incisor teeth and must constantly gnaw to grind them down. With their razor-sharp teeth, squirrels can chew through most building materials if they are determined. And make no mistake about it. Squirrels, or any other rodents in your home, can cause significant property damage and is a health hazard for the home’s occupants. Squirrel droppings can contain numerous pathogens that can become airborne and travel throughout the home. Also, squirrels can bring in other unwanted guests in your home including fleas and Lyme-infested ticks.
Solution
To take care of this infestation and exit these animals fro the attic, I placed a one-way device over the entry point. These one-ways do exactly what they are named: the allow for one-way access out of the home. The squirrels are free to leave, but any attempted return is blocked. I also placed three baited traps not he roof near the access point. Sure enough, it did not take long to catch the squirrels and relocate them to a more appropriate habitat. With the squirrels removed, I could now cover the entry point with metal flashing to prevent any other animals from gaining access to the attic area.
