Humid & Messy Crawl Space Gets Transformed in Basking Ridge, NJ
Before | After |
---|---|
Our Crawl Space team was sent out to the home of a new customer in Basking Ridge, NJ, to help them out with their humid and messy crawl space. Due to the high humidity levels in the crawl space, the insulation was saturated and falling down. Fortunately, there wasn't any mold growing in the crawl space.
First, we removed all of the contaminated insulation, as well as other debris, out of the crawl space and properly disposed of them. Next, we removed the old vapor barrier and added a drainage matting. This is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over to sump pump. Afterward, we added a reinforced polyethylene plastic film on top of the drainage matting. The next thing we did was seal off all the exposed vents throughout the crawl space. This will prevent any outside moisture, as well as any rodents or pests, from entering the crawl space.
Next, we installed ComfortTherm® Insulation throughout the crawl space. ComfortTherm® Insulation is poly-encapsulated and is ideal for moisture-rich crawl space environments. The insulation also helps to preserve the air quality and reduce energy costs. ComfortTherm® insulation also provides excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates. Lastly, to control the humidity levels in the crawl space, we installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run.
Huge hornets nest endangers Bridgewater, NJ family
Before | After |
---|---|
I was sent to a home in Bridgewater, NJ who’s owner was walking to their car when he noticed a huge gray hornets nest in the tree adjacent to the walkway. Hornets make their own nesting material by mixing chewed-up wood pulp from tree bark mixed with their saliva, forming an enclosed nest around the comb where the queen lays her eggs.
First I want to say, it’s a good thing he did not try to remove it himself. These hornets are extremely aggressive, and will defend its nest if threatened. They are close relatives of yellow jackets and they are just as nasty and aggressive, singing anyone or anything that comes into the “danger zone” around their nest. These wasps, unlike bees, can sting repeatedly, so a swarm of them can pose quite a dangerous situation.
I quickly put on my bee suit. With these particular stinging insects, I wasn’t going to take any chances. With the protection of my bee suit, I was able to I walk right up to the nest, and find the entry hole.
Once found, we inject a foaming insecticide directly into the nest, quickly paralyzing all of the hornets and any stray hornets that might be returning from gathering nest building material.
Once I was sure that there was no further danger from those hornets, I removed the nest from the branch, and let the homeowners know to stay away from the area for a while because there still could be returning hornets wondering where their home went. Eventually the hornets would go elsewhere.

A frantic homeowner in Basking Ridge, NJ contacted our Nuisance Wildlife division after she found an opossum hiding in her shed! She was cleaning it out, and spotted the critter in the corner of the shed! We were sent out to inspect and retrieve it. After a through inspection of the shed, we determined that the opossum was able to get into the shed by squeezing through a giant hole underneath the area and popping out through a small hole inside the shed!
In order to retrieve the opossum, we installed a positive set over the burrow that is was utilizing and then installed Dig Defense® around the entire perimeter of the shed except for that area. Dig Defense® is a below-ground fence system that is 15 inches deep, 4 feet across, and protects structures against invasive nuisance wildlife and feral animals. A positive set is comprised of a nose cone that is attached to a two-gaited, heavy-duty device. It's called a positive set, because we are positive that the opossum will enter our device.
Once we safely retrieve the opossum, we will take it to a new, humane location, fill in the burrow, and install another portion of Dig Defense® over the access point. Additionally, once we're finished, the homeowner will patch up that hole in his shed.
The manager of a commercial warehouse in Basking Ridge, NJ called our office after multiple workers spotted an massive amount of stink bugs in one of break rooms. So we were sent out to inspect and treat. As we inspected the break room, we noticed that the stink bugs were coming from a small hole in the ceiling tile. We asked the manager what was above that area and he said the attic, so we inspected that area too! As we were examining the attic, we found even more stink bugs throughout the area as well as a couple of small holes in the roof. Turns out this was how the stink bugs were getting inside the warehouse!
Stink bugs get their name for the stench they give off when crushed. They are also known as shield bugs because of the shield-like shape of their body. stink bugs can be green or brown in color and approximately one-half-inch in size, possibly even larger. As the weather turns cooler in the fall, they will move indoors and spend the winter months inside of wall voids, attics, flooring, and other hidden areas of the home. Once inside, stink bugs are very difficult to control. The best strategy when it comes to stink bugs is to prevent them from ever entering your home or business!
We informed the manager about the holes in the roof and he mentioned that he will hire a roofer to take care of that. In the meantime, to control the stink bugs, we installed a fly light up in the attic and in the break room. These devices use an insect-attracting lamp to lure insects to an adhesive trapping glue board. They lure and capture virtually any flying insects such as house flies, bottle flies, mosquitoes, gnats, and moths. Afterward, we treated around the exterior door frames and window frames of the warehouse with a residual application. When the stink bugs land on the treated surfaces they will come in contact with the application and be eliminated. Lastly, we scheduled several follow-up visits to monitor the infestation and apply any additional treatments if needed.
This homeowner in Basking Ridge, NJ, was sitting outside on her back porch, enjoying the beautiful weather. Suddenly, she noticed a number of yellow jackets flying around the corner of her pergola. Since she is HIGHLY allergic to bee stings, she carefully went inside and gave our Pest Control division a call.
Once we arrived, we equipped our protective bee suit and began our inspection. That's when we noticed that the yellow jackets were harboring inside a small gap between the top of the pergola and the siding of the home. So we grabbed our extendable pole, attached a knockdown dusting application to it, and applied it directly into the gap. This treatment will exterminate the yellow jackets almost immediately. A short while later, we applied a residual application to the area in order to eliminate any yellow jackets that return to this area as well as prevent them from building a nest.
As we were treating this home in Basking Ridge, NJ, we noticed a large amount of yellow jackets going in and out of a small gap up in the corner of the pergola in the front yard. To eliminate them quickly, we injected a residual dusting application directly into the gap. Once they’re gone, we’re also going to treat the area with a liquid non repellant. This product will exterminate any remaining yellow jackets that return to this area as well as prevent them from building another nest.
A property manager of an office building in Basking Ridge, NJ, noticed an unusually large amount of yellow jackets hovering around a particular area on his building near the security camera. Since he uses our Pest Control services at his home, he decided to give us a call to come out and treat his business!
As we closely inspected the area, we discovered that the yellow jackets weren't nesting around the security camera, they were nesting IN the security camera! This presents a dangerous situation for anyone coming into the office, as the yellow jackets were right by the front door and they're known to be quite aggressive and territorial.
For treatment, we injected a knockdown aerosol application directly into the small gaps of the security camera. This treatment will rapidly exterminate the yellow jackets. Afterward, we treated the area, as well as the entire building, we a liquid residual product. This treatment will exterminate any remaining yellow jackets as well as prevent them from building a nest.
A new customer in Basking Ridge, NJ called our office after finding a number of ants in her family room. During our inspection, we found the ants crawling along the baseboards and identified them as odorous house ants. Odorous house ants are tiny, fast ants that give off a rotten coconut smell when they're crushed or startled. After identifying them, we inspected the exterior and noticed that the ants were infesting the home by crawling underneath a small exposed section of the siding on the side of the building.
We treated the entire exterior of the home and, with the owners permission, the baseboards, cracks, & crevices in the family room with a non-repellant liquid application. The odorous house ants will come in contact with this application, return to their nest, and then transfer the treatment throughout their colony. A short while later, the ants will be exterminated. Once they're eliminated, the homeowner will contact a contractor to repair the siding.
