Pests We Treat Photo Album: Teachers Break Room Filled with Flying Ants in Freehold, NJ
A concerned principal in Freehold, NJ, spotted some flying insects in one of the facility break rooms and was concerned that they might be termites, so he called our office for help.
Not Termites
As we inspected the kitchen area of the break room, we found some flying insects underneath the dishwasher. We took a closer look and identified them as flying ants.
Flying Ants vs Flying Termites
Flying ants have two sets of wings that are different sizes while termites have two sets of wings that are exactly the same size. Also flying termites have a two body segment (a head and a waist) while flying ants have a 3 body segment (a head, thorax, and waist).
IPM
Since this was a school that we were servicing, certain IPM (Integrated Pest Management) protocols must be followed. We decided to treat along the baseboards with an ant gel bait.
The Outside
The ants love this bait and will bring it back to their nest and share it throughout their colony. A short while later, the colony will be exterminated. We then went outside and treated the grassy areas with a granular bait that will accomplish the same result as the gel bait.
