Pests We Treat Photo Album: 200 Year Old Home Riddled with Termites and Powerpost Beetles in Holmdel, NJ

This house had years of activity with termites and powder post beetles.

Active Termite Infestation

When I began my inspection, I found an active termite swarm in a bathroom on the first floor. As we continued, I also found another active termite infestation in one of the main support beams in the basement!

Termite Mud Tube

As you can see, there are a massive amount of mud tubes coming out of the beam. Subterranean termites build distinctive mud tubes to gain access to food sources and to protect themselves from open air.

Powderpost Beetles

I also found evidence of another wood-destroying pest - powderpost beetles! "Powderpost beetle" is a term used to describe several species of small (1/8-3/4 inch long) insects that reduce wood to a flour-like powder.

Treatment Process

To treat these current infestations, and to help protect this house and two other structures on the property, I drilled into the concrete and injected a liquid termiticide under the stoops, the brick pavers, and into the soil abutting the rubble wall foundations.

Foaming Version

I also injected a termiticide foam into the beams and other wood members in the basement. I also attached several bait boxes that the termites will feed on.

Protective Zone

Both of these applications create a protective zone that the termites or the powderpost beetles can't detect. Once they come in contact with either of these treatments and bring them back to their nest to share, they are exterminated.
