A Lot of Carpenter Bees
Beginning my inspection, I immediately noticed the large amount of carpenter bees going in and out of the fascia board on the sunny side of the home.
All About Carpenter Bees
The female carpenter bee finds soft wood, such as a facia board on house gables, where she makes a 1/2 inch circular hole large enough for her body to fit through. The female carpenter bee then makes a 90 degree turn creating chambers with a solitary egg placed in each chamber. Meanwhile the male carpenter bee flies outside protecting the female from predators.
Look for the Yellow Stains
While the carpenter bee burrows into the wood, it leaves behind sawdust called "frass." There is also yellow staining left on the siding where the gallery is located which is their fecal matter. This is an easy way to tell if you have a carpenter bee infestation.
Go For the Liquid Treatment
Due to the high activity, I treated the area with a liquid residual application.
All the Males Fault
When the male bee enters the gallery at night it will bring the residual into the chamber transferring the product to the female carpenter bee and to the larvae inside. Shortly after, the carpenter bees are eliminated.
