Pests We Treat Photo Album: Acrobatic Ants Found in Economics Classroom in Howell, NJ
During a service at a school in Howell, NJ, I came across a small infestation of acrobatic ants.
A Trail of Acrobatic Ants
While I was inspecting the interior of the building, I came across one classroom that had a small trail of acrobatic ants on the counter.
Are They Acrobatic?
They are called acrobatic ants due to the fact that they acrobatically arch their abdomen over their thorax when agitated. They can easily be identified by their heart-shaped abdomen.
Feasting on Some Cake
These ants favor honeydew in an outdoor setting, so it was as no surprise that they had found a sweet source from the cake batter left on the counter.
Treatment for Acrobatic Ants
I cleaned the countertop where the food debris was spilled and applied an ant gel bait to the cracks and crevices throughout the area. Next, at the request of the principal, I treated the exterior with a liquid non-repellant. The acrobatic ants will bring either of these products back to their colony and transfer the treatments among one another, including their reproductive queen. Shortly after, they are exterminated.
