Pests We Treat Photo Album: Wet Window Attracts Carpenter Ants in Neptune, NJ
Recently, I treated a home in Neptune, NJ for odorous house ants.
Come a Knocking
As I inspected the home, I noticed a few carpenter ants crawling near the window. To get an idea of how large the infestation was, I began to bang on the window and the ants started flowing out!
Leak in the Kitchen Window
A closer inspection revealed that there was a large leak in the window that was attracting the ants. Carpenter ants are wood destroying insects that don't eat wood, but excavate it. They are especially attracted to wood that has been damaged by moisture.
Flush Out the Carpenter Ants
I treated the area with a flushing application that will flush the ants out of hiding and rapidly exterminate them. I then treated the exterior and, at the request of the owner, interior of the home with a liquid non-repellant.
No More Carpenter Ants
Once the carpenter ants come in contact with this treatment, they will bring it back to their nest and transfer it among one other. Soon after, the entire colony is exterminated. I was happy to hear that the homeowner will have her husband replace the window and repair the leak.
