Pests We Treat Photo Album: Improper Sanitation Causes Massive Fruit Flies in Princeton, NJ
When a restaurant manager in Princeton, NJ noticed a considerably large amount of fruit flies in his kitchen, he called Cowleys to come out and treat.
Fruit Flies By the Sink
We noticed a large number of fruit flies hovering around one of the sinks. Upon closer inspection, we noticed a build-up of various liquids.
Dirty Everywhere
Continuing our inspection, we noticed more food and various spilled liquids on the floor, walls, inside the floor mats, and the floor drains throughout the kitchen.
A Haven for Fruit Flies
Fruit flies feed and breed in decaying and bacteria-ridden areas and will then land on food and food-contact surfaces where they can transmit food-borne bacteria and spread different types of food-borne illnesses. Due to the poor sanitation of this area of the kitchen, it was practically a haven for fruit flies!
Costly for Business Owners
We informed the owner who immediately instituted a new sanitation procedure for his employees and managers to follow. Unfortunately, the fruit fly infestation was so severe, that we had to dispose of all contaminated food items, costing the owner over $2000 worth of discarded inventory!
Scrub a Dub Dub
As the staff was deep cleaning the kitchen, we scrubbed all the drains and applied a liquid application that removes the bad bacteria from the drain that fruit flies breed in.
Show Them the Light
We then applied a bio-foam solution that removes the organic build-up, odors, and scum in the drains and a residual fly bait underneath the sinks and pipes. We also installed a fly light in several areas throughout the restaurant to help fight against fruit flies and other flying insects.
