Pests We Treat Photo Album: Face-to-Face with a Dotted Wolf Spider in Brick, NJ
As I was treating the property of a new Home Protection Plan customer in Brick, NJ, I came face-to-face with a large intruder.
Right by My Face
As I was treating the crawl space, I began inspecting the fireplace. As soon as I peaked my head inside I was face to face with a dotted wolf spider.
How to Identify a Dotted Wolf Spider
Dotted wolf spiders look similar to wolf spiders except they have a distinctive spotted pattern of dark spots on the yellowish-tan underside of their abdomen and a solid brown stripe running down the middle of their abdomen.
Hunt Like a Wolf
These are athletic spiders that don't spin webs to catch their prey, but instead, they run it down like a wolf.
Sleep All Day, Hunt All Night
They typically hunt during the night and rest in sheltered places during the day. They'll enter structures in search of prey and tend to remain at or near floor level, especially along walls and under furniture.
Quickly Eliminated
I applied a residual application directly onto the spider, which will quickly eliminate it. I also noticed a few gaps throughout the crawl space and sealed them up with a waterproof adhesive to prevent any future pest intrusions.
