These Ants Are...
I began inspecting the building and saw ants crawling all over the side of the door. A closer inspection revealed that these are pavement ants.
All About Pavement Ants
Pavement ants received their name because they primarily nest in or under cracks in pavement. They are 1/8 of an inch in size, mostly dark brown to black in color, and have been known to infest structures in mass quantities and contaminate food.
Their Main Nest
As I inspected the entire building, I noticed the pavement ants were coming in and out of the door frame and trailing all the way up to the second floor. I did some digging and found their main nest in the door frame.
Treating the Building
I applied direct contact dust residual inside the door frame as well as all the cracks and crevice areas on the first and second floor. I also applied a liquid residual along the entire exterior and interior of the building.
Lights Out for the Ants
The ants will come in contact with either of these products, bring it back to their nest, and transfer it among one another through feeding, grooming, and even eating their own dead. In no time at all, the colony is exterminated. I scheduled a follow-up visit to monitor the infestation and, if needed, apply any additional treatments.
