The carpenter bee infestation was so bad that the homeowner and his pet dog could no longer enjoy sitting on his back porch. I spotted the carpenter bees hovering near a particular area up high near trim, so I grabbed my ladder and started inspecting.
Evidence of Carpenter Bees
Within minutes I found evidence of a carpenter bee infestation. Female carpenter bees excavate perfectly circular holes, about a 1/2 inch in diameter, into a wooden structure to form smooth galleries to nest in. If left untreated, then serious damage can occur.
How to Spot Them
One way to spot a carpenter bee infestation is to look for their yellowish feces under their nest or a buildup of frass (sawdust).
Dust Out the Carpenter Bees
For treatment, I injected a direct-contact dust residual into each gallery. This treatment almost immediately eliminates the carpenter bees as well as any newly-hatched carpenter bees leaving the gallery. In no time at all, the homeowner can once again enjoy sitting outside on his back porch.
