Carpenter bees are wood-destroying insects that tunnel smooth galleries into the wood. The male carpenter bee guards the colony to scare off anything that comes close to the nest, but they do NOT STING. They merely dive bomb at potential threats to scare them off. Only the female carpenter bee can sting and will only do so if provoked.
