Pests We Treat Photo Album: Bad Sanitation Causes a Bad Drain & Fruit Fly Infestation
Spotted Immediately
Since the manager reported seeing flies in the kitchen and garbage area, that's were I began inspecting. Within minutes, I noticed a drain filled with debris and drain flies.
Love the Muck
Drain flies are about 1/8 of an inch and breed in the organic debris or "muck" inside drains. The dirtier the drain, the worse the infestation.
Another Drain
In the sink room, there was another drain filled with soap and food.
Fruit Flies Taking a Sip
I noticed a few flies hovering over the soda dispenser, so I inspected. I noticed it was filled with various sugary drinks and loaded with fruit flies.
Fruit Flies Have a Sweet Tooth
The sugars in soda and beer are highly attractive to fruit flies and they will lay their eggs near the surface of moist, organic materials. If not taken care of immediately, the infestation can get out of hand fast.
Let the Manager Know
After completing my inspection, I informed the manager of all the sanitation issues that I found and what needs to be done.
Working Together
The manager addressed the sanitation issues immediately and I began eradicating the flies. I emptied and sanitized the drink dispenser area, which immediately neutralized the fruit flies.
Scrubbing the Drains
Next, for each drain, I scrubbed out all the debris and applied a liquid application that kills the bad bacteria in the drain.
Foamed
Lastly, I treated the drains with a bio-foam solution that eliminates the drain fly larvae and the organic build-up, odors, and scum in the drains.
