Pests We Treat Photo Album: Dark, Damp Crawl Space in Ocean Township, NJ is Perfect for Camel Crickets
If you have a crawl space that is damp, dark, and moist, chances are, you're going to have an issue with camel crickets (otherwise known as cave crickets or sprickets).
Well, I Found Them
The homeowner mentioned that his wife spotted a few cave crickets by the door vent to the crawl space. As soon as I stepped foot into the crawl space, I found a whole bunch of them!
What the Hump!
Camel crickets, also called cave crickets, get their name from their humpbacked appearance, which is similar to that of a camel. They do not carry or transmit any diseases nor do they have fangs to bite. Their only defense mechanism is that they jump at predators to scare them off....which works pretty well!
Not Sprickets!
Contrary to popular belief, they are not related to the arachnid family at all. Many people call them "sprickets" because they look like a cross between a spider and a cricket.
Spray Them
I applied a liquid residual application directly onto the camel crickets and applied a granular bait throughout the crawl space.
The Upstairs Too
I also applied the liquid residual throughout the main level of the home and also set up several glue holes boards throughout the home. All of these combined treatments are designed to eliminate the camel crickets. Soon the home will be pest free!
