Pests We Treat Photo Album: Dark-Eyed Fruit Flies in Rumson, NJ
While performing an initial service for one of our Commercial Protection Plan clients in Rumson, NJ I came across a floor drain that was infested with dark-eyed fruit flies.
Infested with Fruit Flies
Upon inspection, I noticed that a floor drain was filled with gunk and dark-eyed fruit flies.
What Are They
Dark-eyed fruit flies are brown with dark, red eyes and are little more difficult to control than regular fruit flies. They thrive in moist, smelly organic debris.
Get out the Gunk
After removing the drain screen, I used a putty knife to remove most of the gunk that formed around the top of the drain and then scrubbed the inside of the drain with a stiff brush.
BioFOAM it Up
Finally, I used a biofoam application to break down any remaining organic matter inside the drain.
Ultra Violet
To easier control of these pests, aside from proper sanitation procedures, is by the use of an ultra violet light to attract and trap flying insects. In addition to the UV bulb that attracts the insects, there is a glue board in close proximity that traps the pests and is replaced as needed.
