Pests We Treat Photo Album: Fruit Flies Thrive in Asbury Park, NJ
Recently, we were sent out to one of our commercial accounts, a restaurant in Asbury Park, NJ. One of the staff members reported that there was a large number of fruit flies near the bar area.
Dirty Sink
As soon as we started conducting an inspection, sure enough, we spotted drain flies in a kitchen sink that wasn't cleaned.
Another Dirty Drain
Continuing our inspection, we located another dirty drain near the bar area.
Drain Fly Larvae
We removed the lid and found numerous fruit fly larvae on the cover. Fruit flies are attracted to ripe or fermenting fruit and vegetables, and juices disposed of in the sink. They feed off and lay their eggs in the accumulated "muck" that builds up in drains.
Behind Bars
Drains behind bars, especially those under equipment where sweets and beer dispensers are drained into, are at a higher risk to attract pests. The main reason being that the access is limited to clean them and they keep collecting decaying organic material, which makes a perfect place for fruit flies to lay their eggs.
Slime in Drink Dispenser
Improper sanitation procedures can result in attracting numerous pests. Here, the drain dispenser wasn't cleaned.
First Things First
First, we scrubbed and removed all the debris and "muck" out of the drain.
Foam it All
Next, we applied a bio-foam solution. This bio-foam solution effectively removes build-up, odors, and scum in drains to help prevent and get rid of existing drain flies and other pests. Once finished, we spoke to the manager and the staff about the trouble areas, how to prevent them, and proper sanitation techniques to prevent future pest intrusions.
