Pests We Treat Photo Album: Ants Crawl All Over Homeowners Deck in Brielle, NJ
A homeowner in Brielle, NJ contact Cowleys after finding a large number of pavement ants on her deck. Pavement ants are small ants about 1/8 of an inch long and are dark brown to black. Their name comes from nesting under sidewalks and driveways. They also nest under stones, logs, boards, patio blocks, and other items lying on top of the ground.
Found the Little Pests
We walked to her back deck where she began to show me all of the ant activity. The pavement ants were seen all over the deck around the legs of the table. The most unsettling scenario for this client was that the ants would be crawling her food and drinks!
Deep Nesting
I began to follow the ant trail and saw that it led off of the deck through a rock garden and into the root system of some shrubs. I begin to pull the leaves away from the root system to come in contact with the nest but it was very deep in the ground.
The Right Application for the Right Job
This situation definitely called for a light liquid application to the nesting area as well as where the ants were trailing to the deck. Once the light liquid application was applied I thought it would be a good idea to apply some granular bait underneath the deck. This would keep any liquid applications off of the deck itself so no one would come in contact with it.
All in a Days Work
Whatever was lurking underneath the deck that was inaccessible, would certainly take that bait. Within a two week time, all of the ants will be eradicated from the area and no further ant activity will be bothering this client.
