Pests We Treat Photo Album: Massive Pavement Ant Infestation in Eatontown, NJ
Recently, I went out on a service call for a new residential client in Eatontown, NJ who contacted Cowleys after finding ants in his family room. Once I arrived I began a thorough interior inspection and found ants trailing along the screen door. Closer inspection revealed that these were pavement ants.
Ant Hills Outside the Sliding Glass Door
As I was inspecting the interior and exterior of the home, I noticed there were several ant hills along the sliding glass in the living room. An ant hill is a mound of soil that you can normally find in your garden or backyard. It's primarily composed of dirt, tiny rocks, sand, clay, and various types of decomposed organic material. Anthills are a result of the queen and worker ants trying to establish a safe home for the entire colony.
Pulled Back the Carpet And...
I proceed to vacuum up all the dirt mounds prior to treatment. At that point I did not see any active ants, but when I proceeded to lift up the edges of the carpet, everything changed. Pavement ants were nesting under the carpet!
Ants Out of Control
There was a massive colony of pavement ants underneath the carpet inside the home! Pavement ants are small ants that are dark brown to black in color. They primarily nest under pavements (hence their name) such as sidewalks and driveways. Large numbers may swarm into buildings built on concrete slabs and the inaccessibility of their nests makes for a challenging infestation removal.
Intensive Treatment
Needless to say, this home will need intensive treatment! I applied a liquid application along the entire exterior of the home and along the ant trail underneath the carpet inside. The ants will come in contact with this product and carry it back to their colony. They then will share the product with each other, including the ant queen. In a short amount of time, the ants will be eliminated. I scheduled a follow-up inspection to monitor the infestation and apply any additional treatment if needed.
