Rodents are highly adaptable animals and thrive in human habitats. Humans derive no benefits from having rodents around them; rather, these disease-carrying vermin are a serious liability. But rats, on the other hand, get all sorts of perks living around people where there is an abundance of food, water, and shelter.  No matter where you live — in a city, in the suburbs, in rural areas — and no matter whether you live near water or out in the countryside, you may find yourself with a rodent infestation. Of course, certain areas are more prone to rodent infestations. Cities, with their high-density living arrangements and food-containing garbage from residents and restaurants left out on the street, are notorious for having high rodent populations, especially rats.
