Mice find new way into Point Pleasant home
Challenge
One of our customers in Point Pleasant Borough was dealing with a troublesome mouse infestation. We had been to the house earlier to find and close the entry points and to set up bait stations. The customer called us back because she, on her own, had trapped a mouse under a shoe box in her living room. She wanted the mouse removed, and was hesitant to do so on her own. We understand that most people want nothing to do with rodents, and we were happy to oblige.
Upon arrival, I put on a pair of gloves and talked with the customer about how she had managed to trap the mouse under a box. After all, mice are extremely fast critters and, unless someone has amazing reflexes, trapping them with a box would be a challenge. The customer said that this mouse was easy to catch, saying that it was "sluggish" and "half-drunk." Since no alcohol was being served to any mice on the premises, I knew that the mouse was sick and about to die because he had eaten some tainted bait from a trap that we had set.
I lifted the lid of the box and easily caught the mouse by hand. I determined that the mouse was able to enter the home because the garage door was left open all day.
Solution
After removing the mouse, we investigated the garage and attic to gauge the level of rodent activity. To my surprise, we saw blood trails, and followed the trails up the wall and into the chimney access hole, which turned out to be another mouse entry point. I advised the customer that she needed have the hole sealed. While there, we inspected all of the bait stations and replaced the bait as needed.
The customer was happy that the mouse removed, that the bait stations were working, and that the bait was replenished. The level of infestation has already been dramatically reduced. We will continue to follow up with this Point Pleasant customer until the mouse infestation is completely resolved, which should be no time at all.
