Bed bugs invade special vintage doll in this Neptune City home
Challenge
A Neptune City homeowner contacted Cowleys complaining of a bed bug infestation. Unfortunately, bed bug populations increase dramatically, and this homeowner waited a few weeks before contacting us until he was “positive” that there was a problem. By the time we arrived, the localized infestation became a severe infestation spreading throughout several bedrooms.
When bed bugs are not feeding, they like to keep a low profile, hiding and breeding in the smallest spaces that they can find out of the light and out of view, usually in tucked away in hiding places nearby where they feed. Sometimes they bury themselves into the crevices and stitching of the mattress or chair. Other times, they venture to a nearby locations. During my inspections, the places I’ve found them amazes even me. After I think a bed bug would never be hiding in there, I’ve found them! I’ve found bed bugs in slippers, in nightstands, in picture frames, in the spines of books, in reading glass cases, and even in the cutest stuffed animals. For bed bugs, no place is off limits. In this particular bed bug infestation, I found a cluster of bed bugs, of all places, inside of a vintage cabbage patch kids lamp!
Solution
The Cowleys protocol for a severe bed bug infestation is an intensive five-week process that includes an initial treatment and two follow-ups. We return in order to make sure that any residual bugs that may have escaped an earlier treatment are killed. The premises will be intensively vacuumed, steamed, and chemically treated. We will stay on the job, inspect and re-inspect, doing whatever it takes to make sure that these challenging infestations are successfully resolved.
When it comes to bed bugs, the best protection is prevention. Anything brought into your home should be inspected, especially when coming back from trips or your child is coming back from school to visit. Immediately wash all clothing after returning from a trip. When you are sleeping in areas outside of your home, be vigilant in checking mattresses for bed bugs. Taking common sense precautions now can save you a lot of time, aggravation, and headaches later.
