Termite damage in Eatontown caught by accident - good thing we did!
Challenge
While inspecting for rodent activity in an Eatontown commercial building, I discovered termite-damaged ceiling beams in the basement. An active termite infestation that had gone undetected for quite awhile had eaten away significant amounts of wood. As often happens during inspections, technicians are called to a personal residence or a commercial building based on one complaint and once there find other issues. Many times, these problems are interrelated. For example, a structure with water intrusion or moisture issues may well find itself with both insect and mold problems.
Subterranean termites, which need moisture to survive, can infest homes either from the ground up, going directly into the wood, or by traveling through mud tubes along a concrete foundation. They build these protective tubes to stay moist since these fragile insects can’t survive for long once exposed to air. Termites are especially attracted to moist wood, which is common in basements and crawl spaces because of water intrusion or moisture problems.
Solution
To treat this active termite infestation, we scheduled a full-scale liquid soil injection of Termidor around the perimeter of the structure. This non-repellent and undetectable termiticide is carried back to the nest and transferred to other termites so the entire colony is soon killed. With termites, just like with ants and other social insects, it is ineffective to kill random foraging insects. The colony is a breeding machine that will easily replace them. The only permanent solution is to destroy the colony itself. The size of a termite colony is mind-boggling. A single colony can have millions of termites capable of spreading across half an acre in search for food. However, once this application works its magic and the colony is killed, your termite problem will be resolved.
Once the termite infestation is gone, those building materials that have lost their structural integrity due to termite damage must be removed and replaced. Because of the property damage that accompanies termite infestations, Cowleys recommends the Sentricon termite colony elimination system, a preventative termite system that uses bait stations. It works like an underground protective moat to block termites from reaching your property. When it comes to termites and the damage they can cause, especially considering the investment in your property, there is nothing better for peace of mind.
