Bed Bug Control in Asbury Park, NJ - Bed Bugs Raid Asbury Park Housing Units
Challenge
Bed bugs are “the masters of stealth” and “the world’s best hitchhikers.” Bed bugs have extremely poor mobility, yet they have managed to spread like wildfire throughout the congested Northeast states, especially in places where people are always “on the go” like in New York City and most areas of New Jersey. Also, multi-person residences such as apartments, college dormitories, motels/hotels, and nursing homes are notorious trouble spots for bedbug infestations.
For example, I was recently assigned to resolve a difficult bed bug infestation in an Asbury Park apartment building. The bed bugs had already made their way into a number of units. Just think about how easy it is for bed bugs to transfer in close living quarters. All you need is to be stuck in a packed elevator or near other tenants in the laundry room or on a bus, and a lone bed bug has a perfect opportunity to find a new host. If you happen to cross paths with another tenant dealing with an infestation, you are now part of the link of an ever-expanding chain of infestations.
As shown in this picture, while bed bugs do their dirty work at night when it comes to finding a human host for their blood meal, they are not like cockroaches that scurry when the lights are turned on. These bed bug pictures were taken in broad daylight. As you can see, they weren’t at all phased about being discovered. One picture shows a bed bug infestation on the fabric of an arm of a chair. This is a mix of white eggs, light brown shell casings, rust-colored live bed bugs, not to mention their droppings. The other picture shows a mobility scooter that is infested by bed bugs. Just think, wherever the scooter goes, the bed bugs come along for the ride, and some of them transfer to someone else.
This is a perfect illustration of why bed bug infestations just keep spreading, and just as important, why you need to resolve an infestation in its early stages once in an apartment building or other multi-unit dwelling. The longer that a tenant waits, the more entrenched and larger the infestation throughout the entire building. And if just one area in one unit is not treated, the infestation can always return. It’s no surprise why fully eradicating a bed bug infestation in an apartment complex can be an intensive, challenging process.
Solution
Two bed bug technicians are dispatched for the initial treatment. One of the technicians thoroughly reinspects all of the home’s living spaces, including those rooms initially thought to not have an infestation. This re-inspection assures that all areas of the home are treated. For example, the infestation may have spread since the initial inspection.
VACUUM OF LIVE BED BUGS
At the same time, the other technician begins treatment by thoroughly vacuuming all live bedbugs from all infested rooms. A powerful suction hepa vacuum is used since bed bugs are able to cling to fabric and wedge themselves in cracks and crevices. It is important to use a vacuum that is powerful enough to dislodge them.
STEAMER
After all rooms determined to be infested have been vacuumed, a commercial grade steamer is used to kill the bed bugs from all crack and crevices, penetrating those hard-to-reach areas. Bed bugs cannot tolerate high heat, and a steamer kills bed bugs on contact. Common areas that harbor bed bugs are bed frames, sofas, and other living room furniture. However, bed bugs can hide anywhere and everywhere in a home and no potential hiding place can be overlooked.
MATTRESS ENCASEMENTS INSTALLED
Encasements are installed on mattress and boxsprings. Bed leg monitors are placed where applicable in infested locations, and a light chemical treatment that is safe for humans and pets is applied as well.
FOLLOW UP
After the initial treatment, there is a two-week followup. This follow-up is primarily an inspection to ensure that the bed bugs have been eradicated. However, if there are still areas of concern, we apply or re-apply chemical treatment.
SECOND FOLLOW UP
We schedule a second follow up two to three weeks later, following the same inspection spot and application procedure as the first follow up. After this visit, customers have the peace of mind of our 90-day no-bite no-sight warranty in the unlikely event that there is still a problem.
