German Cockroaches in Ocean Twp
Challenge
I was dispatched to a home in Ocean Township to resolve a large German roach population in the kitchen. Roaches are persistent and resilient insects and, often, the size of the infestation is underestimated because they stay out of sight and hide in small cracks and crevasses, unless they are scavenging for food or water. Their behavior makes it easy for them to find small hiding spots to start laying eggs. Often roach infestations are concentrated in kitchens, both residential and commercial. Whenever there is a roach infestation, German roaches are the prime suspect. Roaches have extremely unsanitary behaviors, just like flies, crawling, eating, and eliminating waste all over anything and everything in its path, finding their way into the pantry and potentially contaminating food. Needless to say, a roach infestation is a health hazard and must be quickly resolved.
The homeowner was adamant about not applying liquid pesticides in her home. To reach the smallest cracks and crevices where roaches are hiding and laying eggs, there is no more effective treatment than using my trusty B & G sprayer to flush these vile insects out of the smallest hiding places. However, there are other methods if a customer does not want a spray treatment.
Solution
I explained to this customer that a gel bait product is a very effective alternate treatment, although it may take longer to resolve the infestation. With gel bait, the roaches have to feed on it to be killed; it does not absorb like a spray. However, one bonus with using baits is that when a roach does die, other roaches don’t know the dead bodies are poisoned. Other roaches will eat the dead bodies and then get a secondary poisoning. When it comes to killing roaches, gel baits are the gift that keeps on giving. I applied the bait and, sure enough, within a matter of moments, roaches began to feed. Roaches just can’t get enough of this stuff.
The customer was extremely happy with how fast the bait was working, and thanked me knowing that the roach issue would be resolved in a matter of days. For me, the best part of being a Cowleys pest control technician is going into a home or business and resolving a problem that is causing someone stress and worry. It’s a great feeling always great to see customers who are so grateful having a roach infestation resolved and being able to once again enjoy their property without fear of watching these scattering vile insects.
