Rodent infestation in commercial facility in Neptune, NJ
Challenge
I was called out to a commercial facility in Neptune, NJ for a rodent infestation. The manager of the facility informed me that they already have a pest control coming to the facility every two weeks, and they didn’t understand why they still had a severe rodent issue?
Armed with this information I started my inspection and immediately noticed that the current company had put several Protecta bait stations out along the perimeter of the wood line, which I thought was a good thing. A Protecta bait station is a tamper-resistant rodent station that can hold several different types of rodenticides, plus it locks when closing. This type of bait station is used for safety reasons; so that people and wildlife cannot access the bait without a key. The rodents should go into the station, feed on the bait and the rodent problem will be resolved.
This would have been the perfect solution for this client, however when I opened the stations, 90% of them had no bait, no label and no anchor. The stations were flipped over, sideways, or just not placed correctly. Of course, these bait stations only works if the they are set up, serviced and monitored correctly. Furthermore labeling and anchoring the stations is per EPA regulations
Solution
Cowleys will remove the current bait stations, reinstall the properly labeled and anchored bait stations, and most importantly, get the facility on a routine maintenance schedule to check and replace the baits as necessary.
