Mice in Homeowner's Living Room in Ocean Township, NJ
Challenge
We were sent out on a service call for a homeowner in Ocean Township, NJ today to inspect and treat for mice that had made their way into her living room.
The homeowner had no idea how the mice were getting into the house. First, we conducted a thorough inspection of the basement and garage and then proceeded to the attic. That's where we found an area with a high activity of droppings at the edge of a framed-in chimney. We then went outside to find the frame of the chimney to see if there were any openings. The chimney frame did not completely go to the ground, leaving a huge two-foot gap underneath and behind the aluminum siding. Along with finding leaves in this gap, we found used cup lids and wrappers with obvious mice chew marks.
Solution
We carefully cleaned up the droppings and installed several tamper-proof rodent bait stations throughout this area and along the exterior of the home. We also scheduled an appointment with our wildlife department to come out and install an exclusion that will not only keep rodents out of this home but nuisance wildlife as well!
