Senior Apartment Infested with Bed Bugs in Asbury Park, NJ
Challenge
We were called in to inspect an apartment at one of our senior complexes in Asbury Park, NJ. Upon inspection, we immediately found bed bugs in the living room couch and bedroom box spring. I started my search to make sure we found every bed bug we could. Lo and behold, a little black pouch caught my eye. I decided to make sure the pouch was clear before moving on. Inside and under the zipper enclosure bed bugs were found. It was an insulin pouch. Goes to show that even daily-used items can not only harbor bedbugs but spread them by bringing these items with you on your daily travels.
This customer was asked to discard the pouch and try and refrain from putting items like these... Books, magazines, etc. on or adjacent to infested areas until we have eliminated the problem.
Solution
At the request of the homeowner, we wrapped up the infested items and carefully disposed of them. Afterward, we vacuumed up the live bed bugs and treated the baseboards, the crevices of the couch, bed frame, and the surrounding areas with a bio-pesticide application.
Next, we treated every outlet throughout the home with a residual dusting product. Both of these treatments will eradicate bed bugs of all life stages, sex, and feeding status within a short amount of time. Lastly, we scheduled several follow-up visits to monitor the infestation and, if needed, apply any additional treatments.
