Conducive Conditions Contribute to Mice Issue in Restaurant in Point Pleasant, NJ
Challenge
When one of the workers spotted a mouse in the garbage room, this restaurant owner in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ immediately called Cowleys for help and we were sent out. Fortunately, the restaurant wasn't open yet, but they were getting ready for the summer. As we were inspecting the building, we did find mice droppings in several areas inside the building but also noticed a large gap underneath the back door. We also found several crawl space vents that weren't covered properly with some mice hair stuck in them. We inspected the crawl space and found even more droppings throughout the area.
Both of these areas are the conducive conditions that are contributing to the mice infestation. Due to their collapsible ribs, mice are able to squeeze through openings the width of a pencil. So what you may think is an opening that's too small for mice to enter, in reality, it could be the perfect size. This is why it's imperative to conduct a thorough inspection of your building, look for any potential openings, and have a professional properly seal them off.
Solution
We installed a number of rodent bait stations in several areas inside the restaurant, throughout the crawl space, and around the entire exterior of the building. Afterward, we spoke to the owner and proposed installing an Xcluder® Rodent Proof Door Sweep underneath the entire length of the back door as well as properly excluding the crawl space vents. Xcluder® door sweeps feature Xcluder fill fabric, providing a barrier impenetrable to rodents and other pests, along with a durable weather seal that can pay for itself in energy savings.
The owner informed us that he will think about it and contact us at a later date (should he move forward with these exclusions). Before we left we scheduled a number of follow up visits to monitor the mice activity and replenish the bait stations as needed.
