Carpenter Ants Were Nesting Inside Dead Tree in Spotswood, NJ
Challenge
As we were inspecting and treating this home in Spotswood, NJ, we came across a dead tree in the backyard that was roped off. We decided to take a closer look at it, and discovered that every single opening of the tree was infested with carpenter ants!
Carpenter ants are wood-destroying insects and they received their name because they excavate wood in order to build their nests, unlike termites which eat wood. They seek out water-damaged, decaying wood that they can easily excavate.
Solution
For treatment, we injected a residual application into every single opening in the tree that the carpenter ants were coming from. Afterward, we applied some granular bait around the base of the tree and along the entire landscape. Lastly, as a safety precaution, we treated the entire exterior of the home with a liquid non-repellent.
The worker carpenter ants will come in contact with any of these treatments, bring them back to their colony, and then share them with their queen as well as the other ants. They'll accomplish this by feeding one another, grooming one other, or eating their own dead. A short while later, the carpenter ants will be eliminated.
