Termites Chilling Out in the Basement in Ocean Gate, NJ
Challenge
During a scheduled service for a Home Protection Plan customer in Ocean Gate, NJ we noticed a wooden joist that appeared to be damaged in the basement. Once we got closer and investigated we found several subterranean termites inside! As we continued investigating the basement, tucked away in the back corner were several active termite mud tubes! Those are the pencil-sized tunnels that the termites create to travel from their nest to a food source. Since the owner's Home Protection Plan included termite treatment, we immediately began treating the basement.
Solution
The first thing we did was, with the owners permission, drill into the concrete floor in the basement. Afterward, we injected a liquid termiticide into each one of the drill holes as well as around the entire exterior perimeter of the home. Next, we drilled into the wooden joists and injected a foaming version of the termiticide. The termiticide binds to the areas the we treat and creates a protective zone that is undetectable to the termites. The termites will unknowingly come in contact with this treatment as they go about their business, return to their nest, and spread it throughout their colony. In a short while amount of time, the termites will be exterminated and the home will be properly protected from termites for many years.
