Found a Lot of Termite Swarmers by the Windows in Hillsborough, NJ
Challenge
After noticing a massive amount of winged ants in his living room, this customer in Hillsborough, NJ, called Cowleys for help and we were sent out. As we inspected the living room, we quickly realized that these weren't winged ants, but termite swarmers! A quick way to distinguish between the two is that flying ants have two sets of wings that are different sizes while termite swarmers have two sets of wings that are exactly the same size.
The termite colonies send their "explorers", also referred to as swarmers, in search of a hospitable area. Unlike other termites in a colony, swarmers are attracted to light, which is why they're often found on the inside of windows in a structure. Termite swarmers also shed their wings during the mating process. We thoroughly inspected the interior and exterior of the home to uncover any termite damage done to the property and, fortunately, we didn't find any.
Solution
Despite not finding any signs of an active infestation, the owner still wanted to have a thorough termite treatment done to her home. With the owner's permission, since termites live beneath the soil, we drilled into flooring of the living room and around the entire exterior of the building. Once that was finished, we injected a liquid termiticide into each one of the drill holes on the inside and outside of the home.
This treatment binds to the treated areas and creates a protective zone that is undetectable to the termites. As the termites go about their business, they'll come in contact with the termiticide, bring it back to their nest, and unknowingly transfer it throughout their colony. The termiticide then spreads rapidly like a virus! Once we finished injecting the termiticide, we plugged and filled in each one of the drill holes. In short amount of time, any and all termites will be exterminated and the home will be properly protected from termites for many years.
