Digger Bees Starting to Emerge in Aberdeen, NJ
Challenge
A new customer in Aberdeen, NJ contacted our office after her daughter saw hundreds of bees flying around the backyard. Once we arrived and took a closer look, we quickly identified these bees as digger bees.
Digger bees are solitary, non-social wasps and each hole is a separate, independent nest of digger bees. The females dig these half-inch to one-inch deep burrows to nest and raise young. Although the venom from a digger bee sting is strong enough to cause a severe allergic reaction in some people, they're non-aggressive and usually only sting if they are being stepped on. A key indication of a digger bee infestation is the multiple pencil-sized dirt mounds across a lawn.
Solution
For treatment, we applied a granular bait across the backyard and then injected a residual dusting application into each one of the digger bee mounds. Both of these treatments will rapidly exterminate the digger bees.
