Discarded & Forgotten Rug Harboring Clothing Moths in Hopewell, NJ
Challenge
A new customer in Hopewell, NJ, was seeing a lot of "flying insects" in her bedroom, so she contact Cowleys for help. As we inspected the bedroom and took a closer look at these flying insects, we were able to identify them as clothing moths. Clothing moths dine on wool, fur, silk, and hair. If left untreated, these annoying pests can completely destroy clothes, bedding, and even furniture. They prefer to harbor in the dark and don't typically fly to lights.
During our inspection, we noticed that the clothing moths were mainly coming from the closet, so we examined that area. When we did, we found a rolled up rug in the corner of the closet. We unrolled it and we found thousands of clothing moth larvae inside!
Solution
We showed this to the owner, who immediately discarded the infested rug. In the meantime, we treated the closet and the bedroom with a liquid residual. This application will rapidly exterminate the clothing moths. Afterward, we installed several pheromone traps throughout the area. These devices have a unique pheromone in them that lures the clothing moths to their doom. The purpose of these pheromone devices is to catch the adult clothing moths that are flying around the bedroom and closet. Lastly, we scheduled several follow up inspections to monitor the devices and, if needed, apply any additional treatments.
