Black Widows All Over the Exterior Doors in Belmar, NJ
Challenge
During a routine treatment service for a commercial property in Belmar, NJ, we found a large number of black widow spiders around the back exterior doors! Black widow spiders are infamously known from the popular belief that the female eats the male after mating. What may shock you is, that is a phenomenon that rarely happens in nature! They are approximately 3 to 10 mm long, and the females are larger than the males. Being that they are arachnids, they have eight legs and young black widow spiders are primarily orange and white but acquire more black color as they mature.
Male black widow spiders rarely bite, but the females may bite in defense (especially after laying eggs). They are primarily active when the temperature is 70 degrees or higher, however, with the right conditions, they can survive in lower temperatures. Their diet consists of arthropods, such as ants, cockroaches, scorpions, and beetles. They favor dry, dark locations to spin their webs, and when outdoors, they reside under stones, decks, firewood piles, and hollow tree stumps and prefer cluttered areas that offer more harborage for their prey.
Solution
We treated each one of the black widow spiders, the exterior doors, and around the exterior of the building with a liquid residual product. This application will rapidly exterminate them.
