Homeowner Attacked by Bald-Faced Hornets in Rumson, NJ
Challenge
This homeowner in Rumson, NJ was relaxing in her backyard when suddenly she was attacked by several hornets. Fortunately, she wasn't allergic to bee stings, but this prompted her to give our office a call. When we arrived, we spotted a softball sized bald-faced hornets nest on the soffit area by the back door, 3 feet away from where she was sitting.
Bald-faced hornets are social stinging insects that are EXTREMELY aggressive and will not hesitate to sting anything that invades their space. Their stings carry a venom that makes the stings hurt, itch, and swell for about 24 hours.
Solution
Using our extendable pole we treated the nest with a knockdown aerosol application, waited several moments, then applied a knockdown liquid product. Both of these treatments will exterminate the bald-faced hornets almost immediately. A short while later, we removed the nest, properly disposed of it, and treated the area with a liquid residual to eliminate any returning hornets as well as prevent them from building another nest.
