Spoiled Food & Spilled Liquids Leads to a Fruit Fly Infestation in Fair Haven, NJ
Challenge
Recently, we were sent out to a commercial establishment in Fair Haven, NJ to handle a fruit fly infestation in the kitchen.
As we inspected the area, we noticed that a majority of the fruit flies were hovering around one of the sinks in the corner. As soon as we took a look, we noticed that there was a large buildup of food debris in the floor drain and that one of the sinks was leaking, causing a decent sized puddle of murky water to build up underneath the equipment. There was also a container that was almost filled with grease and had a buildup of food debris around it. All of these issues is what was attracting the fruit flies to the area!
We showed the owner our findings and advised him that a proper cleaning procedure will prevent pests from infesting his business. The owner immediately contacted a licensed plumber to come out and repair the leak as well as had his staff properly and thoroughly clean the kitchen.
Solution
By cleaning the problem areas will almost immediately eliminate the fruit flies. For our treatment, we applied a liquid application in all the floor drains and then scrubbed them out with our heavy-duty scrubbing brush. Afterward, we applied a bio-foam solution in the drains, which removes all the organic build-up, odors, and scum inside them. Lastly, we applied a fly bait to the high activity areas to control and exterminate the adult fruit flies.
