Broken Grease Trap Causes Drain Fly Problem in Rumson, NJ
Challenge
A manager of a business in Rumson, NJ called our office after finding a large number of drain flies throughout his kitchen. After a detailed inspection of the entire building, we found the main source of the infestation — in a broken grease trap in the kitchen. Drain flies are about 1/8 of an inch and breed in the organic debris or "muck" inside drains. The dirtier the drain, the worse the infestation. We pointed out this issue to the manager and recommended a few simple sanitation procedures to prevent any future problems.
Solution
After speaking to the manager, we went right to work! We scrubbed all the debris out of the grease trap and then treated it with a liquid application. This product kills the bad bacteria in the drain, which is the breeding habitat for the drain flies. Lastly, we treated the grease trap with a bio-foam solution that eliminates the drain fly larvae and the organic build-up, odors, and scum in the drains. At the request of the owner, we repeated this process to every floor drain in the kitchen.
