Cave Crickets and Mold Found in Basement in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ
Challenge
Recently, we treated the home of a new customer in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ for cave crickets. The homeowner mentioned that she spotted a few cave crickets by the basement door. As soon as we started inspecting the basement, not only did we find camel crickets throughout the area, but mold all over the walls and joists!
Camel crickets, also called cave crickets, get their name from their humpbacked appearance, which is similar to that of a camel. They do not carry or transmit any diseases nor do they have fangs to bite. Their only defense mechanism is that they jump at predators to scare them off....which works pretty well! You may know them as "sprickets," because they look like a cross between a spider and cricket. Despite that, camel crickets aren't arachnids.
Before we started treating, we told the homeowner about the massive mold growth in the basement and that we can contact our mold department to come out, inspect, and treat it. She agreed and we contacted our office to schedule an appointment for the homeowner.
Solution
We treated the basement with a liquid residual and then applied a granular bait throughout the area. These products will not only rapidly exterminate the camel crickets, but also prevent them from reinfesting this and other areas of the home. At the homeowners' request, we treated the main level of the home with the liquid residual.
Lastly, we set up several glue boards throughout the home. In a short amount of time, the home will be free of these nightmare-inducing pests!
